MEKA CAREY: FINDING PURPOSE THROUGH COMEDY, FAITH, AND LEGACY

“People really don’t think I’m as approachable as I am. A lot of people locally just don’t reach out to me. My first magazine article came out of Atlanta, which is crazy when you think about it. There are so many people doing interviews and media around here, but I think people kind of assume things before even trying. So honestly, I was super excited to do this.”
For Tameka Carey, comedy wasn’t originally the plan. After spending 15 years in banking, she found herself entering what she describes as a new “phase” of life — one centered around rediscovery, creativity, and purpose.
“I believe we go through phases,” Carey explained. “Some people think we’re supposed to work one job for 30 years and retire, but life moves in chapters.”
What began as content to promote her business unexpectedly opened the door to comedy. As her videos gained attention online, viewers consistently pointed out her natural humor and comedic timing.
Although Tameka Carey had experimented with comedy before through open mics, she admits she never truly took it seriously in the beginning.
